We would suggest that original fascias are discarded generally but if your old fascias are free from rot you might “cap” the existing fascia with a 10mm capping board explicitly manufactured for the job. This will certainly minimize the cost of materials and waste disposal and can be a perfectly acceptable method delivering the same finish and durability as fascia replacement at a lesser cost when installed competently.
