Replace Broken Hip Tiles

Over time you may find that some hip tiles have become displaced from your roof, they may come off completly or you may just notice that they do not look secure.

Hip tiles are not hard to replace on a tiled roof and the process is relatively inexpensive

Replacing hip tiles on a slate roof is a tricky job as you cannot walk on the slates, so the cost is slightly more

The best solution is usually to remove to whole hip and then re bed the old hip tiles back into position. If the mortar is still in good order it may be just as effective to simply re bed the missing hip tiles

If you have hip tile displacement on your roof it is advisable to check the state of the mortar on the rest of your roof, it may be wise to rake out the old mortar on the rest of your roof and repoint with new mortar throughout.

Other times the problem will only be on the displaced hip tiles, some times a heavy gust of wind can penetrate into the loft and the pressure can push them out of position. It is advisable to fix this problem quickly to prevent futher damage caused by the top tiles slipping down the roof under their own weight

A note of caution - We have seen incidents where hip tiles have fell damaging vehicles parked on a driveway.
